What to expect
What actually happens at a meeting.
About ninety minutes, most of it business. If you have never been, this is the shape of it.

Social hour from 6:00
Come early. This is when you meet your precinct's committeemen, talk to whoever is running, and ask the questions you would rather not ask into a microphone.

Called to order at 6:30
The General Assembly runs under Robert's Rules of Order. It is a business meeting, not a rally — motions, votes, and reports.

Candidates and guest speakers
Republican candidates, elected officials, and invited speakers address the room. In an election year this is the most direct access to them you will get locally.
- 04
Committee business
Reports, county and state party matters, and votes — including the votes that seat new precinct committeemen and committeewomen.

Some older listings still show a Winter Haven location. They are out of date — we meet in Lakeland. If you are travelling any distance, check here or call the office before you set out.
Can I come if I am not a member?
Yes. Guests are welcome to attend, listen, meet candidates, and ask questions. Voting on committee business is limited to seated members and their alternates.
That open door is our own standing policy rather than a legal requirement — a county party committee is not a public body under Florida's Sunshine Law, so no statute obliges us to admit anyone. We do it because a party that only talks to itself stops growing.
How the meeting runs
State party rules set the floor and we exceed it. A county committee must meet at least six times a year, at least once a quarter, with at least 28 days between meetings and ten days' written notice to members. We meet monthly.
Forty percent of the membership must be present to do business, and county committees may not vote by proxy. That makes attendance the whole ballgame: if members do not turn up, nothing can be decided — no new members seated, no resolutions passed, no business done.
